1772 Pinot Noir 2020

The 2020 vintage began with a cool winter and some much-needed rain that spurred a later than usual bud break. The growing season was mild overall, however, and the onset of early summer weather allowed the grapes to catch up. For our Pinot Noir, we saw the fruit mature earlier than usual, with flavors developing at an early Brix. Grapes for this wine were picked with bright, expressive fruit character in late August.

Winemaking
The fruit was picked at night, destemmed, and sorted with our optical sorter. It is fermented in our stainless steel open top tanks. We inoculate the yeast and use three different strains to change the profile of the lots. Extraction is then done with pump overs twice daily. This wine is then aged for 9 months in 100% French oak barrels, 24% of them being new.

Wine Profile

Nose: Aromas of White Pepper, cured meat, juicy cherry with rose pedals and vanilla.

Palate: Smooth and juicy with a light body, pomegrate juice and herbal notes. Really long with lingering hay and cedar notes, cherry.
